The SoulCare Project

dedicated to providing leaders intentional space for rest

Eugene Peterson

Author, professor and pastor

“Theologically I was brought up on Calvin and Luther and later on Barth. They’re all magnificent theologians, and not without imagination. They care about words, but I think of them as mountain climbers. They go to the heights. They see the whole thing. But five or ten years into being a pastor, I was introduced by a friend to Teresa of Avila and John of the Cross. They are theologians of a very different kind. I think of them as theologians of the valley, where people live.”
(A conversation with Lucy Shaw at Image Journal)

Befriending Imperfection & Tension – A Retreat in the Footsteps of Henri Nouwen

We’re inviting you to come away on retreat with The SoulCare Project. We are privileged to have Will Hernandez facilitating our time.

“Our route to wholeness entails a massive confrontation with our state of brokenness…power can only be perfected via the place of weakness…the process of our union with God is, of necessity, paved by suffering…Nouwen’s writings reveal that he struggled all the way through although he never broke down completely. He always managed to bounce back. Nouwen lived with and through the inward, outward, and upward tensions of his own journey.” -Wil Hernandez

The SoulCare Project is a ministry dedicated to providing leaders intentional space for rest and communion with Christ. Our desire is to offer a safe place for ministry leaders to experience the quiet assurance of God’s love. Attendees will have the rare opportunity to set aside the busy and productive life in order to hear God’s voice through stillness.

Wil Hernandez, PhD, Obl. OSB
Wil is the founder and president of CenterQuest – an ecumenical hub for the study and practice of Christian spirituality – which hosts a School of Spiritual Direction hybrid program (online/residency combination). He is the author of a trilogy on Nouwen, the latest title of which is Henri Nouwen and Spiritual Polarities: A Life of Tension published by Paulist Press. Wil has committed himself to propagating the enduring spiritual legacy of HenriNouwen, one of the greatest spiritual writers of the last century. A Benedictine Oblate of Saint Andrew’s Abbey in Valyermo, CA, Wil also serves as a lector and lay Eucharistic minister at St. James Episcopal Church in South Pasadena, CA. Married to Juliet for more than 28 years, they make their home in Arcadia, CA together with their two adult sons, Jonathan and David.
